Two Common Misconceptions in Selecting Coating Lines: The Lower The Price The Better? Imported Equipment Must Be Good?

2025-03-06

In the field of industrial manufacturing, more than 60% of companies have cognitive biases when purchasing coating lines for the first time. As a coating equipment manufacturer with 20 years of experience in the industry, we have found that two typical misunderstandings are causing companies millions of losses.

1.Lower Price ≠ Better ValueGood

Some buyers overemphasize the initial investment cost control, unaware that low-cost equipment is often accompanied by multiple pitfalls.

Example:

A car company purchased 6 million low-priced spraying line, and after putting it into production, three major problems emerged:

•Key parameters do not meet the standard: powder coating booth dust removal efficiency of only 65% (industry standard > 90%)

•Energy costs increased: hourly power consumption than OURS COATING similar equipment is

about 40% high

•Frequent shutdowns and maintenance: the conveyor system breaks down 4 times a month.

The essence of the low price trap:

Adopting non-standard motor and PLC control system (37% lower cost, but 5 times shorter life)

Noexhaust gas treatment (later environmental transformation costs more than 50% of the total cost of equipment)

Lack of modularized design (the entire production line needs to be replaced for expansion)

2.Imported Equipment ≠ Always Good

While imported coating systems are often perceived as technologically advanced, they may not align with a company’s specific needs.

Example:

A building materials company spent 20 million to introduce the European automatic coating line, but due to special product specifications lead to equipment utilization rate of less than 40%. This typical case reflects the common adaptability problems of imported equipment:

•Excess technology:six-axis robotic system to deal with simple plane spraying resulting in a waste of resources.

•Lack of localization:Environmental standards conflict with domestic VOCs emission requirements.

•Maintenance time lag:Key components can take up to 45 days to replace, affecting production schedules.

•Operation disconnect:mismatch between the equipment control system and the existing technical team's capability.

It is worth noting that the domestic coating equipment technology breakthrough. Powder coating system, for example, the leading domestic manufacturers of coating uniformity has reached ± 1.5μm, equipment crop rate exceeded 92%, the degree of intelligence is comparable to international brands. So blindly choose imported equipment is not necessarily the best.
